Aviation English
1
The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) adopted English as its working language in 2003, and all member states must ensure that air traffic personnel meet ICAO English proficiency requirements by March 2011.
If you are air traffic staff – a pilot of air traffic controller – you must take a test to prove your level of English. The score you receive in the test will decide if you can fly or control air traffic on international routes and how often you will need to be tested again.
- Level 1, 2 or 3 – You will need English and aviation English training to reach the minimum level. You may not be able to fly or control traffic on international routes.
- Level 4 (Operational) – you may fly or control traffic on international routes. You will need to take an English test every 3 years
- Level 5 (Extended) – You may fly or control traffic on international routes. You will need to take an English test every 6 years.
- Level 6 (Expert) - you may fly or control traffic on international routes. You will not need to take another test.
Our Aviation English course will help you to improve your language skills in order to take an ICAO English proficiency exam at levels 4 and 5.
