SQA ESOL course for Scottish Higher ESOL.

This is a Scottish Qualifications Authority exam. Employers all over Scotland know it. You can use it to show that your English is good for work and study.

Your teacher will have good qualifications to teach the course, and has taught for many years.

Course Overview

The course is 160 hours. There are two parts:

  1. English for Everyday Communication. 80 hours.

  2. English for Work or English for Study. 40 hours.

You will agree to study English for Work or English for Study with your teacher. There is an extra 40 hours for personalised learning.

At the beginning of the course, you will agree an individual learning plan (ILP) with the teacher. This plan will help you to understand what you need to learn to pass the exam,. It will help the teacher to plan your classes.

The Higher is in four parts – two courses in a classroom, one course of self-study and the exam. If you don't take the exam, you can still take a unit award. This means that you do not have to complete the course in one year.
