English for Academic Purposes (EAP)

You have finished university at home. You want to study in the UK. This course is for you. The course will give you the skills you need to succeed at university. You will do real study tasks like essay writing and making presentations. This will help you improve your study skills and your English.

Entry Criteria

You should be intermediate level before you start the course. You should be 17 or older when you start.

Course Content

Work to develop the core skills of Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing.

IELTS exam preparation

Academic English - developing skills in:

  1. Academic writing
  2. Conversation skills
  3. Listening
  4. Reading for successful study in a UK university or college.
  5. Presentation and seminar skills.
  6. f you are studying law, parts of the course will focus on law. If you are taking business studies, we will focus on academic English for business.

Timetable: 25 hours per week

09:00 - 10:30 - General English

10:30 - 11:00 - Break

11:00 - 12:30- General English

13:30 - 14:30 - Academic English - note-taking, listening and  speaking

14:30 - 14:45 - Break

14:45 - 25:45 -  Academic English - research, reading and writing skills

The course runs for a full academic year - 3 terms of 12 weeks each. We advise students to take the whole course.

Term 1: 20th September 2010 - 10 December 2010

Term 2: 3rd January 2011 - 25th March 2011

Term 3: 4th April 2011 - 24th June 2011 

Fees

One Term - £3540

Two Terms - £6500

Three Terms - £9460

The maximum class size is 12 students.

•Specific Course (example law, business, tourism) books can be purchased at a cost of £25 per book or rented with a refundable       deposit of £25

Academic Writing Course - Part-time

You can study academic writing at ELA.

You are a university student and you want more help with your writing skills. The course covers only academic writing skills. It is not a foundation course for university.

Dates and Fees

The course is for 2 or 4 hours/week, and can start at any time.

Course costs £30/hr.

The course runs for a minimum of four weeks.
